Born in Downend,
Bristol, I've been passionate about music ever since seeing The
Clash play at the Colston Hall as a teenager. I owe my early musical
education to John Peel, eagerly tuning in to his late night show
when most pubescent lads my age were out chasing girls!
As a
songwriter, I've been performing and releasing records with various
indie-pop bands, some signed, some unsigned, since the 1980's.
Highly polished, self-indulgent music is of no interest to me. I
prefer to hear the human element - passion being more important than
technical ability. |

I'm also a keen
record collector, interested mostly in vinyl from the punk era,
indie, C86, 60's soul, early ska, dub reggae, basically anything
innovative that offers energy and excitement. I occasionally DJ too
- nothing fancy though, no mixing, no scratching, just a box of good
records. Well, that's all you really need, isn't it?
I started
writing about music for the Somerset Guardian back in the early
1990's and continue today with an on-line column for wunderbar.co.uk.
I've got no proper qualifications to boast, only enthusiasm, so it's
a pleasure to have now joined the Bristol Rocks team.
So, maybe I'll
meet you at a gig soon? Sadly, I'm a little too old for the mosh pit
these days, but I'll be there somewhere at the back, probably
clutching a pint of Guinness. Lush! (as we say here in the West
Country!). |
