Worst Gig
- Modesty Blaise. - What happened to the audience? |
|
|
|
Pop combo 'Modesty Blaise' have had
their share of good, bad and ugly shows. Johnny Collins recalls a
couple live concerts as he calls them. |

"We've had many dreadful gigs. Stand out
appalling gigs like Sheffield. Hallinghamshire Hotel was one, as
part of a bizarre tour that we did of Nottingham, Loughborough and
Leicester. But Sheffield's Hallinghamshire Hotel ..... No-one there.
Only the sound people and also the promoters. They'd utterly failed
to do any promotion whatsoever and they were just astounded that we
bothered to play but we did because it was like a free rehearsal, so
that was a pretty good one! I would hazard a guess that the
Sheffield Hallinghamshire Hotel has since been knocked down. On that
same tour we did the Narrow Boat in Nottingham which was our finest
gig at the time and they've certainly knocked that one down. An
awful lot of places we have played have closed down or demolished
after we play there! We're getting large parts of central Europe
demolished! I've no idea why that is. It does seem to happen an
awful lot. Maybe we're bad for them? We don't play gigs we play
concerts and occasionally we'll do a recital! But there have been
times when we have been bad, certainly and there have been times
when we've broken more guitar strings than normal and more amps have
gone more than normal. They always do anyway, but nothing that I
don't look back on and think oh that was funny." |
