Hey........ I'm 57............ been
round the 'block several times', but I
went to the best open mic night ever at the upstairs bar of the Portcullis
in Fishponds last night, quality electric blues, with equipment provided,
and lots of individuals doing stints on their various instruments. 3
different drummers, 4 different bassists, 3 'blues harp players', 8
different guitarists.........a sax player, 6 or 7 different singers. (Any
one line up comprised a max of 5 or 6 musicians + singers)
A great compare / resident singer with real personality, and accompanying
guitarist make sure there are very few 'plug in pauses', keeping the show
rolling, with humour and genorisity towards participants..........
It never once slipped towards the chaos that you assume such an event might
lurch towards.
Strict 12 bar with predictable turn arounds was the formula for tons of
creativity.........
What a shed load of talent is around.........what an evening.........its a
regular Thursday gig.......9ish to 12ish.............
