SKETCHBEAT, have a distinctive
funk-rock sound that has been likened to ‘a blend of Queen, Muse and
James Brown’. With punchy drums, funky riffs, trumpet hooks and
massive stage presence, the band has rapidly built up a large, loyal
fan base.
In September 2006, having gone through four gruelling heats and
seeing off over 80 other bands, Sketchbeat became National Battle
of the Band Winners, as seen in NME. In the last month, they
performed in front of a celebrity crowd at Brian Eno’s houses and
have been singled out as “a potential breakthrough band” - a BBC
radio DJ.
The band formed in Autumn ‘05 when London Uni. mates, Paul
(guitar) and Ed (drums), teamed up with Ed’s school mate Mike
(trumpet), and Rich (bass). Since then, the band has been writing
and gigging tirelessly in London and across the South of England.
Over the coming months, the band have secured several live radio
sessions and a series of bookings at respected and established
venues including The Halfmoon in Putney, The Bull and Gate
in Kentish Town and The Metro Club on Oxford Street.
Sketchbeat can be heard on their new four track EP, Beats from
the Dead.
In the New Year, Sketchbeat will be going on a national tour
to promote their debut album, Funny Old World, as well as
blitzing the European festival circuit this coming summer.
“ There is nothing conventional about Sketchbeat. I absolutely
love this band. Their magnetic funk rock sound is taking London by
storm and their charismatic live performances are a regular
sell-out… Sketchbeat are, without doubt, one of the hottest new
bands around.”
Sophie Borland, ‘In the Know’ magazine.
“ Sketchbeat are a truly awesome live act and one of the most
original bands I have ever come across. I’ve never known a band to
get such an instantly positive response from a demanding crowd”
Duncan Brett, B.U.R.S.T. Radio DJ |
