Rocket Festival
Pre-Party:
Rothchild / Silent Crash / Fabric
Tao Bar. 8.00pm FREE ENTRY
R: An old school rock four piece that deliver a wall of sound that is
likely to demolish Tao Bar into a heaving pile of rubble during the first
song. Brilliant guitar playing, with jugganaut bass and hell-raising
vocals all combine to defy the decibel limits.
www.myspace.com/rothchild
SC: Play their own
brand of ‘fall rock’, with a nod towards NYC band Blonde Redhead and the
ever mercurial The Cure. Placing an emphasis on atmosphere and soundscapes,
this French band delivers a dazzling live show that mixes the shimmering
delights of Sigur Ros with hyperactive intensity of Explosions in the Sky.
www.myspace.com/silentcrashmusic
F:
Heady, evocative,
captivating big sounds from a band that have been likened to Portishead
with the jagged edge taken out and replaced with a samurai sword.

The Big Love
Company Presents: Phil
King /
Sweet Larado
8.00pm FREE ENTRY
PK: ‘A modern Bill Withers in the making” – Jazzwise Magazine
Phil King released his debut acoustic album “Leaves” in dec
2006. It received some great national press ("Sensitive,
heart-on-sleeve songs....this is a very good debut” – The
Independent) and some national airplay courtesy of Bob Harris on
BBC Radio 2. He has been likened to Nick Drake, Bill Withers and
Jackson Browne, and praised for his live performances.

SL: Fuse
Blues, Folk and Country with a mesmerising soulful female
vocal. Superbly crafted songs speak of modern love and life
with an old school edge.
Sarah
Scott and Dan Coggins met through a shared love of hip-hop,
soul, blues and jazz. Their stripped down beats and lucious
jazz guitar stylings give reign to Sarah Scott's powerful voice
which veers between the smoky rasps of Erykah Badu and the
timeless female jazz voices of yesteryear.

Tonight's headliner is 31 year old London born singer/songwriter/guitarist
Sam Redington plays a unique blend of folk and country music, the beauty
of which cannot be ignored. She has the knack of combining catchy
melodies with intelligent, honest lyrics, and well thought out, well
written music. Accompanied by guitarist Rick Whitmore, Sam's talent as a
singer is unquestionable, her song writing skills are evident; definitely
a name to look out for in the future. Also appearing is SongSmith regular
and favourite Anna Young. An extremely talented Bristol based songwriter
picking up interest and gigs around the city and collaborating with
various musicians from Artist Studios.
Bringing up the rear, so to speak, is SongSmith host in his QJB guise
playing a solo set of his own highly individual songs with a smattering of
covers.
Admission is free with flier before 9pm, without flier £1. After

independently minded dedicated creative souls too numerous to mention
here. The live shows are something else. Expect the unexpected.

Irreverent, funny and bawdy, tonight headliners
Uncle John and the Germans are not for the easily offended but
are for people who like their folk with a smoky edge (www.myspace.com/unclejohnandthegermans

acts. Sarah Joy coming at us from the heart and soul promoting
re-release album "Basically Naked" (
www.myspace.com/thisissarahjoy). And Nicky Johns (www.myspace.com/nickyjohnsmusic
) at the mellower end of the spectrum with a haunting and clear
voice, hopefully featuring guest musicians in the form of Neil
Ellis-Brookes and the excellent and lovely Richard Riley both of
whom have considerable reputations themselves as SongSmiths.
