Having attended a number of blues jams at the Portcullis in Fishponds, I think that I can give you the formula for successful musician based events. Hollow bone are blues duo Yanu Zsigo & Damien Cheung pictured on the right. They are highly competent performers that have won the respect of the musicians that attend these events and this is the first requirement as organisers.

The second is the ability to run and control such events with confidence and humour. Yanu does this extremely well.

They are also lucky to have the support of the landlord and landlady of a well run pub, the Portcullis. Well done Steve& Arlene for supporting live music in the way that you have!

This was supposed to be an outdoor event and the stage was set. Unfortunately the council objected to the event two days before it was set to go leaving no time to appeal, so the event was staged inside. A  big #uck you to the officious council pricks that did this, especially when you bear in mind that a pub just down the road has been hosting regular outdoor Sunday live music all year.

Hollow Bone are the reason that the first Future of the Blues festival was born. I was only able to attend the first part of Sunday so I asked around some of the audience that had weekend tickets about how things went on Saturday. The general opinion was that the event was as good as it could be. Top bands, a friendly crowd, excellent venue and Yanu & Damien on top form. All those that I asked said that they will be at the next fest.

Mean Red Spiders - Traditional blues that got the crowd dancing.

A carnivore masterpiece. This hog took 9 hours to roast! I am a veg head & had a packet of crisps.

Steve introduces Hollow Bone on Saturday night.

"Yanu takes a well earned break..."

Yanu's mate Prakash came "All the way from Santa Fe" to the festival and got up to jam with Hollowbone on Sunday.
Hollow Bone opened the festival with an acoustic set on Sunday and had a few guests up to do a mini jam ...
