| I became aware of
'Jagged' through another highly acclaimed Bristol group called
"Mesh". In
the same music genre but not long starting out. Next thing their
four track EP lands on my doorstep and then they announce their
debut performance at the Louisiana in Bristol. But the big
question - could "Jagged" perform live? Well it was worth
investigating. |

|
"Jagged" are a five piece industrial/
electronica band who list
'Mesh', 'Nine Inch Nails', 'Gary Numan' and 'Depeche Mode' as
music influences, so that's not a bad start. However nothing
surprises me with this band after listening to their 4 track EP
because they fit in so well with the current mood of music
direction and their sound is fresh and vibrant.
The show opens with "Intro" and
instrumental track just to warm up the audience. The venue was
packed with plenty of support from music lovers who had come along
to witness this debut performance. You soon come to realise that
the musicians on stage belong there and look very much at home. As
the set progresses there is no sign of awkwardness or embarrassing
silences that you tend to witness with first gigs. Iain Brownlie,
singer with "Jagged" oozes confidence as he takes the stage and
becomes spokesperson for the group with the greatest of ease.

"Jagged" gel together very well
indeed. Better still they converse with their audience, encourage
participation by clapping or swaying along with the songs and pull
the crowd into their music. Every now and again band members break
into a smile which must indicate that all is well. The
musicianship remains tight and the sound levels are perfect, that
you can actually hear the lyrics being sung.
My previous review observation of the
song "Burning" continues to have that constant beat in the live
situation and it captures the audience, followed by "Break Out
(Heaven and Hell)". This song is sung extremely well. They then
switch to a 'Visage' cover "Damned Don't cry" and make the song
their very own. This is difficult to achieve for anyone. You can't
help but dance and clap along with "Jagged", unless you are taking
photographs which can be difficult to achieve both at the same
time!

 |
| The audience is
extremely supportive, none of the polite clapping. They are
enthusiastic by what they see. By the time the intro starts for
"Revolution Day" this songs turns out to be the anthemic song of the
evening. It is an absolute stomper and the audience do join in with
the chorus and arms in the air. You couldn't ask for a better
reaction. The crowd obviously love what they hear including a new
track called "Searching" With Iain's strong vocal, great guitar
rifts, keyboard sounds and a drummer who keeps everyone dancing to
the beats this is one highly memorable debut. The forty minute set
is concluded with "How Long" with a thumping industrial beat. |
 |
| Can "Jagged" play live?
Yes. They are highly professional, have a friendly persona on stage,
confident and add a bit of cheek into the mix. For a debut
performance they have to be extremely pleased with themselves. If a
concert goes by quickly you know you've enjoyed yourself and had a
great time. It went by all too soon. They are extremely promising
and when they do a full concert I want to be there to see what more
they can achieve. This is a band I would highly recommend you see as
"Jagged" are about to lead a music revolution on the live circuit at
least. This is a band bound for bigger adventures. |
