The Gala Band CD Review |

|
|
I received this CD a couple of weeks ago and since then it has
not left the player. The reason for this I think is
originality. I haven't heard anything like this before. Unusual
time signatures, amazing vocals, skilful playing and highly
original songs. Getaway is the
first track and I can't fault this composition, just about
everything is in the right place with each instrument
complimenting each other without any competition. |
 |
Mary Queen of titles is
spellbinding, close your eyes when listening to this one and
drift with the cool backing vocal loops. This is a bit like
listening to Genesis music from the 'Trick of the Tail' album.
Because of the time signature it takes some tome to get into but
when you are in there is no escape and you will continually play
it.
|
Bird on a wire is a simple
uncomplicated song. It is ok but not as good as the others to my
ear.
|
The Locket and the light on the
other hand is more substantial with depth applied by additional
instrumentation and backing vocals. As far as I can tell, it is
about a bloke looking for a locket, you don't get many songs
about that. This one has a brilliant end section. Buy it and
see!

Notes on a great escape is a more
conventional song that the previous. We love the lyrics on this
and it is probably the most commercial song of the collection. |
| |
| This music is different and in
places highly original. I love the unusual time signatures, you
could even waltz to Bird on a wire if you were so inclined. For
musical competence and originality this get a Bristol Rocks
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED award. |
