I have been meaning to get along to
see Djute for the first time, since bass player (Justin Seeger)
told me he had joined and I checked out some of there their
songs on BR and MySpace. A last minute Gig headlining the
Fleece on the 30th August seemed like a good time to finally
check them out.
Djute are formed around the central
figure of singer songwriter Julie Baker, with Justin on Bass,
Toffa on Guitar and Violin and new boy Ed Wilson on Drums. This
band obviously gel and I was very impressed by the standard of
musicianship displayed by all....top draw.

Julie is a
hugely charismatic band leader and holds the audiences attention
throughout. Her voice is rich and expressive and the bands music is
both musically and lyrically intriguing and original. The chorus
melodies are strong and memorable without being obvious...great
stuff. Listen to 'Girl's World' and 'Carefully Crafted
Apartments' on MySpace a couple of times and see what I mean.

I asked my mates who they thought
Djute were like and the answers were as diverse as the Pixies,
Talking Heads & Alanis Morissette.....however in the end we all
decided they are pretty much a one off! Djute deserve to be
playing the big festivals and I hope they get a break sometime
soon....in the meantime I recommend catching them locally.....I
accept no blame if you get the those damn choruses stuck in your
brain though!
