This CD was recommended to me by a mate, I got it a week ago and
bunged it in the car player. Since then it has not been out, the
reason being....it is quite brilliant!!. The album contains mostly
original tracks with two covers and there is not a bad track on the
album. |

|
The Communicators play Ska in the style of Madness & the Specials
who were popular in the late 70's at the end of the punk era. This
was a revival of the original form of Ska from the 1950's that
originated in Jamaica. Ska music is dance music and the
Communicators are an 8 piece (sometimes more or less) band that have
an excellent reputation for their live show around Bristol. The live
show has previously consisted of mainly cover songs so the new album is a
welcome surprise & I guess that the new songs are now on the set
list. |
|
All of the songs are well crafted, the recording quality is
faultless and the CD is professionally presented. The album flows
perfectly and never strays from its Ska feel.
I say that the album is in the style of The Specials & Madness
but it is actually a further development of this genre that takes
Ska to the next level. |

|
All of the tracks are faultlessly played
the content is just fantastic with solid rhythm, a top brass section
and quality guitar & keyboards. Big Mitch is the singer / frontman
and is the perfect man for the job.
|
Franks Fancy Fashion is my current favourite track on the album, it
starts with an unusual keyboard lick & develops into a song that
Madness would have been proud to write in their heyday. With a brilliant catchy and
amusing lyric this song goes another step beyond with clever
use of double time and an ace guitar solo.... #kin' brilliant boys.
|
To conclude, if you like Ska music buy this album. If you don't
think you like Ska music buy this album because once you have
listened to it a few times you will.
Personally I can't believe that we are lucky enough to have a band
of this quality playing in & around Bristol. |
