Bedmonster began as a two piece
with a more laid back, acoustic style back in 2003, and gained
acclaim playing local venues mostly in Bath and the surrounding
countryside where Ben and Reuben grew up. The sound evolved to have
a harder edge but the band were keen to rock out without relying on
distortion or effects pedals. They keep it lean and classic, relying
only on incredible musicianship, song-writing, dynamics and
originality. Ben has played in bands of all hues, from metal to soul
to rap to jazz and blues and this is what gives the band that
indefinable and non-generic nature that infuriates and delights
reviewers equally. Reuben has also played widely in different combos
and Caspa is a successful hip-hop artist in his own right, bringing
in a sharp producer’s intelligence to the mix.
For want of any standard
descriptions Decode Magazine have described us as this:
"The beats go funky, rock, post-punky,
with the guitar tuned to weird. Check it out, hammering bass string
for the bassline with jazz ching chords on the remainder, wow! From
grunge pop to the police, but not truly sounding like any of them,
mash up. An MTV friendly band. Chunky, punky, slammin, grooving,
poppy, screamin, rocky, clanky, boppy, noddin tunes. Reggae in there
as well, just sounds like it has all been consumed and squashed back
out via the Bedmonster."
And Venue’s thoughts:
“There is a definite X-Factor here and
everything just falls into place – the melody, the voice, the
personality. “This is a song for the nine to fivers who don’t enjoy
their job,” he grins and a resigned sad cheer turns into a frenzied
clapping with every head in the room turned adoringly towards him.”
Evening Post Newspaper say;
“Bedmonster have a
clever name, but that is not all that's clever about this Bristol
three-piece. their music was such a mixture that it was as if they
had thrown in every conceivable style - reggae, punk, gypsy jazz,
rock and funk - added some strange tunings, recited a magical
incantation and out popped the very distinctive and impressive
Bedmonster sound.”
Last year Bedmonster played the
Shambala, Glastonbury and Arumdo festivals and then supporting the
Presidents of the United States of America at the Academy in
Bristol. This year we are focussing on playing bigger venues in
London and Plymouth, have three festivals in the offing, and are
expecting to be confirmed for European festivals in the summer. They
are shortly to release their first EP. Our next gigs are at Ashton
Court Main Stage and Extravaganza Festival. |
