ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI

CD Review by Steve from Bristol Rocks

Now for something VERY different.
You get a good indication of how just how unique this band is from their name. How on earth do you come up with something like that. I'm sure they will let me know and then I will pass it on.
This is a CD consisting of 10 tracks and like the band are all different.
I have no idea how to start describing  this work except to say the band themselves describe their Brand as Jazz Ballet, Indy Pop, Funk, Grunge & Psychedelic. A bit of everything then!

First up is a track named 'RED TURNED WHITE' followed by 'HEART IT RACES'. I think these two tracks on their own sum up what this band is about but we move on.
There is an interesting use of acoustic percussion of various sorts and the Human voice as an instrument. Listen to 'Heart it Races'. My favourite tracks are 'LIKE IT OR NOT' which has a real Caribbean feel about it and 'HOLD MUSIC' which is a great dance track.

My least favourite track is 'LAZY' which I'm afraid does nothing for me.
There are many influences behind the songs but the first ones to jump out at me were 'The Flying Lizards' (remember their version of the Beatles Money) and an artist I always liked 'Lena Lovic'. This is a really good CD to listen to. I have a few reservations about the production and I'm not sure how a live set of this would work but maybe I will get the chance to find out.
