The critically
acclaimed Transfusion topped the rock charts both in the UK and
Europe, and, on the surface, it looked like AP&S were ready to start on
the path to international success. But, behind the scenes, there were
obvious problems: a miniscule budget, and a label that had never before
handled a mainstream act meant that no singles were released from the
album, so, unsurprisingly, within a period of months, the band found
themselves in the ironic position of playing sellout tours and losing
money. Consequently, the band were starved of finance for a year.
It took another year for MFN to agree to finance the second AP&S album,
Snapshot. In the interim period, internal band problems were resolved
(this in itself is worthy of a six-part radio comedy series!), and new
drummer Laurie Jenkins was brought into the fold, with Miro taking
on the guitarist mantle.
..From then till now...
The first independent AP&S album Free Pawn, was released May 2003,
and was greeted warmly by fans. Obviously, without the resources to
finance distribution or press, or even to tour, it has been an
‘underground’ success. But, the album continues to sell, and has helped to
spread the word that the band is alive and well.
2005 saw the launch of the Apes Singles club. Firstly, rather than keep
everyone waiting for another album, we thought it would be good to release
EPs, so that fans could get a regular dose of new music. The idea to
release solely in download format was a test. But, so far the feedback has
been more than encouraging, and the eEPs will continue to appear on our
official site at regular intervals. |
