| "Angry Panda are an established
alt-rock three piece from Bristol, UK. Formed in 2002, the years have been spent on building a diverse chemistry that covers genres from progressive hard rock to angular melodic jazz. The band is fronted by bassist and lead singer Lee Everson, sonically charged by lead guitarist Steven Nutt and stridently accompanied by drummer Luke Scoulding. Angry Panda possess the same desire to twist and refresh the rock genre that made bands such as The Pixies, Sonic Youth and The Mars Volta so popular. In 2005 Angry Panda recorded their first studio EP, and reached further afield in their gigging profile, with a charity performance at The Mist, Derby, accompanied by repeat slots at the Bristol Croft in June/July 2005. They had their first chance to play the prestigious Bristol Fleece and Firkin, featuring prominently in the Bristol SoundsLive "Sunday Roast" event. After having their most-downloaded song "A Thousand Lives" added to the Sunday Roast Compilation CD, Angry Panda were invited back to the Fleece & Firkin to support Sons of Adam on September 12 th. This gained the band their first press review in Venue Magazine: "Angry Panda's peanut-butter-thick sound threatens to upstage the headliners Sons of Adam tonight. With indulgence-free guitar wig-outs - think a less comatose J Mascis [Dinosaur Jnr] - barbaric bass and the vocalist's Eastern mantra captivating the audience, this three piece are well worth keeping close tabs on." Matt Baird. Top acts have seen Angry Panda on their line ups, reflected in support slots for local faves Underdown and Blackbud during November and December. The eve of 2005 saw AP break into Sheffield as headliners for the Shef-Uni Soundsoc's Christmas party. The holiday period also saw the genesis of new material, the summer recording of which will see the band maturing further into progressive and hard rock stylings. Look out for new songs "Deadfunk" and "The Whispering Campaign". 2006 was christened by an incendiary headline performance at the Liverpool Cavern Club on January 14 th, a show which will not easily fade from memory within the growing "Pandista" fanbase. With future slots at the Bristol Louisiana (headlining March 16 th), Reading's Phatz Club and their first foray into the big smoke of London.the future remains bright and gleaming for Angry Panda. s and return rock to it's primacy as a genre of vision and excitement. The EP is available now, showcasing five of the bands strongest songs so far, with more tracks free to download on http://www.angrypanda.co.uk." |
