AFGM Review - Fleece March 24th |

Well it was a bloody nightmare on Saturday. I intended to get to
the Fleece to hear both Crimson Sky and AFGM but missed the support
slot due to cutting myself shaving and then going through the
Bathroom floorboard injuring my ankle!! But that's another story. I
arrived at the Fleece full of anticipation as I had not heard AFGM
for a long time. (in fact they were A Few Good Men then), and were a
Five piece Band.
The new Four piece outfit plus Two Girl backing Singers came as a
surprise,
as I was unaware of this development but boy what a pleasure it was
when they opened their set to a very enthusiastic crowd! I'm not
going to mince words here and will cut to the chase. They were sheer
CLASS!
I have seen many Local bands in and around the region playing both
Covers and original material, but hey, these guys are a cut above!
They cruised through their set and in doing so showed off their
musicianship and delivered their own songs in a highly polished and
professional manner. The girls backing vocals were a tremendous
addition to the Bands sound and Mike Dawes Rock solid drumming
together with his Engine Room buddy, Tim Martins very accomplished
Bass playing sets a foundation that must be the envy of many many
Bands. The guys are clearly rehearsed to the hilt and it
showed. Chris Melhuish's all round Guitar work, coupled with the
intricate embroidery of local celebrity John Telfer's keys and Lead
Vocal which were again very palatable. This new line up delivers a
punch and a snap that never previously existed and I was a happy man
at the end of their closing song -Out of here that was acclaimed
with great appreciation and cries for more. My only criticism was
that the miserable B------s didn't oblige. Still for a mere £7 what
a bloody bargain!!.
I will certainly be travelling to the Gloucester Guild Hall on
Sunday April 22nd to see AFGM supporting the Legendary Wishbone
Ash.-What a night! |
